Direct Trade Coffee
Lit Espresso Bar brews Stumptown, the pioneer in direct trade coffee. Stumptown’s coffee buyers collaborate directly with individual growers. This cuts all of the importers, exporters and brokers out of the equation. Conglomerates see coffee as a mere commodity, seeking only low beans and maximum volume. Direct traders are connoisseurs, obsessively pursuing local flavor variations, while forming relationships with individual growers who utilize ecologically sound agricultural practices. This localized, small producer-partnering, environmentally friendly methodology is paramount in the creation of truly unique blends. The result of this hands on approach, from selection before the harvest, through the artisanal roasting and blending process, and finally freshly poured into your cup, is exquisite and unrivaled coffee, guaranteed to dazzle your palette.
Mini Coffee Dictionary

While the only way to really know if you like a specialty coffee is to try every one at least once, we try to make your decisions as informed as possible. Here’s a short list to get your started. Our baristas are well versed in the finer points and are always happy to share their knowledge, so if you want to learn more, just ask.

What our customer say
"Espresso bar" serving what they claim is more fair than fair trade coffee. My Americano was certainly tasty, with a bit more personality than your average espresso. Snazzy interior with exposed brick and tin ceiling makes for a nice atmosphere, but a serious dearth of power outlets means you can't stay too long. They also serve a variety of panini -- "NO SUBSTITUTIONS" -- and pastries etc.
A great little coffee place. Fab lattes and great biscuits!?
